Committee Releases Initial Nominees, Considers 2010 Committee Structure
Dear Fellow Democrats:
At the December 12 General Meeting, the Ann Arbor Democrats will elect officers for 2010. The Officer Nominating Committee is charged with the task of providing at least one nominee for each office per Article IX of the Bylaws. This is a status report.
The nominees are at this time, and with their consent:
- Chair: Conan Smith
- Secretary: Katherine Pearson
- Treasurer: Anne Bannister
- Vice Chair for Organization: co chairs Tom Johnson and Joan Lowenstein
- Vice Chair for Communications: Barbara Petersen
- Vice Chair for Outreach and Inclusion: Mary Hall-Thiam
- Vice Chair for Programs: co chairs Susan Baskett and Lou Glorie
It is planned that in 2010, the Officer's will be supported by a critical committee structure, which along with co - vice chairs can help spread the workload. View our Potential 2010 Leadership PDF document, which describes the Officers' responsibilities and committees.
Per the bylaws, additional candidates can be offered to the Nominating Committee. Any candidate will be included as a nominee provided their consent is obtained, and that they have the support of at least two members of the Nominating Committee.
As part of the nominating process, the committee recognized and considered two systemic issues: 1) the ongoing organizational importance and sheer quantity of responsibilities associated with many of the officer positions and 2) the need to provide members with opportunities to gain the sense of history, knowledge, experience and skills that will ensure readiness and smooth transitions as we move from one officer to another through the years. We believe there will be excellent opportunities for growth and gaining experience through participation in the committees. A committee and co vice chair structure should both support current officers and prepare others for future leadership positions.
We have identified necessary committees and some potential committee members and solicit others who would be willing to serve in this capacity. Some of these critical committees are:
- the Bylaws & Rules Committee,
- the Membership Committee,
- the Labor Day Picnic Subcommittee,
- the Ward Strategy Committee.
We will review this material at the next party meeting on Saturday, November 14. Please forward your wish to be on a committee to the Committee Chair, Thomas Johnson at ward4chair@aadems.org
